About my "Stallery" gallery
The Stallery is a fabulous spot for art-lovers that are spending some time in Rosendal. This small town in the eastern Free State is acclaimed for its abundance of art and galleries, making it a delightful destination for visitors from all over the South Africa and the abroad with an interest in creativity.
I was born in 1975 and matriculated at the Hoėrskool Randburg in 1993 having done art as a subject.
I completed my National Diploma in Fine Arts at the Technikon Pretoria, majoring in painting and art history. Other subjects were Figure Drawing, Printmaking, Photography, Sculpture and Ceramics.
As a freelance artist I do a lot of commissioned work with my biggest assignment being 26 portraits in oil of the staff of the Faculty of Engineering of Tswane University of Technology.
In 2001, I attended an art course with KZN artist, Anton Benzon, who encouraged me to concentrate on landscape painting.
My first solo exhibition was at Coetzee Roux Gallery in 2002 after which many followed.
I love to travel throughout South Africa to gather information and inspiration for my landscapes.
About my work
Spontaneous freedom and honesty is the feeling which is derived from my oil paintings. Light and form plays an important part in the creative process. The work is not static and totally realistic within which movement, light and atmosphere can be experienced.
Stallery is my gallery and workshop. The gallery specialises in fine art and community art. In addition to my own pieces, I also showcases the work of a select group of local artists. I can often be found teaching and assisting these young artists in my studio, giving visitors to Stallery a sneak peek into a day in the life of this artist.
This gallery was established on a foundation of romance the love affair between myself and the unadulterated beauty of Rosendal. Once I saw this town, I moved from the hustle and bustle of Gauteng to start a new life and art initiative here.
The permanent exhibition at the Stallery includes a number of stunning sandstone sculptures, which lend a new perspective to my work and are gorgeous additions to the home or garden. The craft shop is designed to provide a platform for the work of the local artists and contributors. It is also a great place to stock up on mementoes and gifts for friends and family back home.
